Getting married, having a party, or hosting an event? Need a DJ? The Cape DJ Company can assist in providing talented and professional DJs, Live Music options, Technical Solutions, and Event Planning for all occasions and establishments. 

When planning your Event or Wedding, there are a few key concepts that you should keep in mind. Consult this list to assist you with your decision-making.

ELECTRICITY

Having a stable electricity supply at your Event is crucial. It is not safe to rely on Eskom so it’s essential to ensure that that the venue has got backup power generation available for periods of load-shedding. That power needs to be safe and stable for our equipment to operate correctly so we would need to ensure that a Certificate Of Compliance has been issued by a certified electrician. If the venue does not have a backup generator, we can make provision to get the correct powered generator for your event as well. 

EVENT AREAS

Events often have multiple areas of use for different functions during the event, especially with weddings. Often the Ceremony Area is far removed from the Canapés area as with the Reception Area. These factors are important in helping us determine how to cater correctly for each section from a technical point of view. If the areas are far removed from each other, we often will have to provide 3 different PA systems for each section. Often though, some of the areas are close to each other enabling us to share the resources, which we will also try to do if it’s feasible and not compromise on audio quality. Please also indicate if you are planning on having your reception in an area that does not have access to electricity (vineyard, riverbank, beach etc…) as this will impact what equipment we will need to source.

MUSIC

Without a doubt, the most vital part of the event. Having the correct music is non-negotiable.  With the proliferation of streaming services available, sharing music has never been easier. Here are our essential areas for consideration.

CEREMONY

Please consider the mood you would like to convey to the guests when they arrive to be seated. Background music can range from soft Classical Music, Acoustic Contemporary Covers, Swing, Bossanova or even take the form of a live Guitar/Violin duo or String quartet. This Acoustic Playlist is always a hit for guest arrivals and general background music. 

Music must then be considered for the Bridesmaids as they enter, the Bride needs her special bridal entrance song, Contemporary or Classical. Once married, an Exit Song does wonders to help add to the celebratory atmosphere as well as for the signing of the Registry.

CANAPÉS

Creating the right mood is essential to ensure guests are enjoying themselves during the Cocktail or Canapés part of the wedding. A DJ with an accompanying Saxophonist or Violin player or a Guitar/Violin Duo or even an Acoustic Duo will do a great job at creating the correct energy for the Canapés. There is a multitude of options to choose from for this part of the event and it pays to take the time to plan this section thoroughly. This is often a great time for people to start getting into the swing of things and some light, cocktail, Cafe-Del -Mar styled house music always works a treat. That said, if you’d prefer to keep it more 80’s or acoustic, any one of these options will work just as well. 

RECEPTION

The core part of the event. Music will play a pivotal part in ensuring the success of this part of the event. 

Special attention needs to be paid to when the new Couple Enter The Venue. Often they will then open the dance floor right away for a brief dance as well. This is also the period when many couples decide to Cut The CakeOnce seated and the MC announces the house rules and the proceedings get underway, music is often used effectively to introduce speakers as they come up to the podium, which can add a lot of humour to the occasion. During dinner, the Correct Background Music is vital to creating the correct ambience for the space while people are enjoying their meals and conversing. 

This leads us to the main dancing part of the evening, which may often require a Father/Daughter song before the Couple First Dance song and then the Opening Of The Dance Floor. There will most likely also be a section during the main dancing event, which will also require the correct music. All these songs need special consideration. Don’t forget about the Garter & Bouquet Toss. Great opportunity to have tons of fun if you have the right music!

Having the right music for all these highlighted sections is crucial to ensuring that each section flows smoothly into the next whilst making great memories of the entire event. 

Consultation with the couple and their guests in advance of the wedding plays an important part in making sure that we get the music right so be prepared to get your playlists ready.

 

DJ

All our DJs have years of experience behind the decks and diverse enough to cater to any crowd. Bridal parties from Dubai, Sokkies in the school hall, big hits on the main stage at the Sun-Met, private trance parties in the Knysna forest, and all-nighter house party events, we do it all. 

MUSICIANS

We work with some of the most talented musicians in the country and have been sharing stages since 2005 in many beautiful hybrids and combinations. Whether it’s a 5 piece band, a DJ Percussion/Sax trio, a roaming Duo or a grooving Function Band, we can assist.
